Leningrad Maritime Technical University was founded in 1930. After the collapse of the Soviet era, in the 1990s, the name was changed to "St. Petersburg State Maritime Technical University."
St. Petersburg State Maritime Technical University is the only university in Russia that offers education in three general faculties related to maritime studies. The university specializes in the maintenance and repair of ships, boats, and submarines. Additionally, it conducts research and provides support for the exploration and production of underwater oil, gas, and other natural mineral resources. The university has 510 faculty members and 89 professors specializing in their respective fields.
